Congratulations to the Riverbrook Regional YMCA’s Special Olympics Bocce participants. The competition was held in West Haven, CT on September 14 and 15, 2024. With pride, we announce that all six of our dedicated athletes not only competed but also brought home medals, showcasing their hard work, perseverance, and the spirit of teamwork. A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers, coaches, and families whose unwavering support made this event a success.

Bowling

(Runs10/5/24-11/23/24 (8 Weeks)
Location: Bowlero Bowling Alley 701 Connecticut Avenue Norwalk, CT.
Saturdays 11:30am-12:30 pm

After an incredibly successful Special Olympics Bocce season, one in which we had six medalists at the Special Olympics Fall Festival, we turn the calendar to bowling season! Practice will be two games of bowling every Saturday, where we will practice bowling form, footwork, and aiming, as well as having plenty of friendly competition. The season will culminate with a Bowling tournament the weekend of 11/23 where the legend of the Riverbrook YMCA Special Olympics program will only grow! Let’s Roll!

RETURNING PROGRAMS

Friends and Buddies

Location: 25yard pool/conference room
Fridays 6:00-7:30pm

Come meet some new Friends and Buddies! This extremely fun laid-back program is a great way to socialize and make lasting friendships! Formerly held semi-weekly, Friends and Buddies is now weekly! We start off in the 25-yard indoor pool where we have free swim for 45 minutes. Participants can have free swim or can use the time to work on their swimming form and stamina with a Wilton Wahoo swim coach. After swimming we meet in the conference room for a pizza party, games, and a fun hang out. Cost of Pizza included in price.

Adaptive Basketball
Location: Basketball Gym
Sundays 2:00-3:00pm

Calling all Ballers! Come work on your basketball skills with your friends and our great YMCA coaches! This program focuses on having fun and getting some exercise. We practice basic basketball skills like dribbling, passing, and shooting, with a scrimmage at the end of practice.

The Roaring 20s
Location: YMCA Lobby/ various locations around the area)
Sundays 3:00-4:30pm

Long running program where all are welcome! Come hang out with friends old and new, as well as our great staff and volunteers. Activities include mini-golf, movies, bowling, trampoline park, and many more! (admission for off campus activities not included)

NEW PROGRAMS!

Arts and Crafts Club
Location: YMCA Activity center
Sundays 10:00-11:00am

Let’s get crafty! We are happy to announce a brand-new program at the Riverbrook YMCA, Arts and Crafts club! Run by coach Audrey, this weekly club will do a different art or craft project each week, as well as work on art skills such as drawing and painting. We hope to see a lot of you come show your creative side!

Dance Club
Location: YMCA Studio B
Sundays 11:15am-12:15pm

Rug-cutters needed! Get ready to move with Coach Olivia! This new program is a great way to get some exercise, have fun, and make friends. The group will work on learning classics and new dance moves as well as working on flexibility and balance. From the Jitterbug to the newest TikTok dances, the YMCA dance club is ready to groove!

Lunch Bunch
Location: Location: YMCA lobby
Sundays 12:30-1:45pm

Lunch Bunch is a new program we are staring here at the Y designed to further strengthen friendships, as well as to fill in the gap between our AM and PM Sunday special needs activities. We will meet in the Lobby, put Football on the TVs, and have a lunch together while also playing games and socializing. Lunch will be provided from a rotating choice of local restaurants like Press Burger, Pinocchio Pizza, CT Coffee Deli, and more. Drop ins welcome but will not be provided lunch because we will need to put the order in earlier in the day and will need to know what to order, however brining a lunch is welcome.

Full Sunday Special
Includes: Arts and Crafts Club, Dance Club, Lunch Bunch, Adaptive Basketball, and Roaring 20s. Location: Various
Sundays 10:00am- 4:30pm

Take the day off! This heavily discounted package of programs is the perfect option for participants to have an amazing and full day, and for parents and caretakers to have the day off. The package includes all our regular Sunday programming: Arts and Crafts, Dance Club, Lunch Bunch, Basketball and Roaring 20s. The participants will have 6.5 hours of fun and well-rounded programs that will improve their physical, mental, and social skills. The parents and caretakers will have 6.5 hours to do whatever they want, knowing their participants are safe, fed, and engaged, all at an unbeatable rate!
