Wilton Family Y programs and membership are open to everyone, regardless of ability or financial resources. The Y is committed to assist every person in our community who wants to participate, no matter what financial or personal limitations exist. All are welcomed into Y programs, whether special assistance is needed due to a physical, mental or emotional challenge, or financial aid is required. From our President
Recently, I heard someone say that challenging times provide an opportunity to “live courageously” – in a spirit of greater connectedness with others. This spirit is always alive and well at our Wilton Y – a place brimming with smiles and warmth, an oasis when the outside world is turbulent. But that doesn’t mean that we haven’t felt the effects of the current economy. Requests for financial assistance are at an all time high and growing everyday – a challenge to our mission to be accessible to all. March 1 marks the beginning of our most ambitious Annual Appeal effort to date, with 100% of funds raised earmarked for fulfillment of these requests for financial aid. We also haven’t raised membership rates in 2009 (as we generally do a small amount each year to cover costs) in an effort to keep our Y affordable to all. Instead, we have embarked on cost-cutting measures like cutting our hours slightly in areas of the building that may be underutilized at certain times, thus saving on energy and personnel costs. Our dedicated staff has also agreed to reductions in their salaries and benefit plans in an effort to ensure the continued Y’s financial viability. We are grateful to them for this personal sacrifice.

But, while we may look for opportunities to reduce our overhead, we will never compromise on cleanliness of our facility or the quality of our staff and programs. And, we will manage through this recession even if it is deeper and longer than analysts predict.

Walk through our doors and enjoy the warmth and sense of community that have made our Wilton Y a very special place to belong for over 30 years. We look forward to seeing you!

Lisa Bogan, President
Wilton Family Y Board of Directors
