ASML awards $1,500,000 Grant to the Riverbrook Regional YMCA for Free Swimming Lessons for Norwalk First Graders, Expansion of Special Needs Programs, and Repair of Splash Pad Following Flood Damage

ASML, an innovation leader in the semiconductor industry, has announced a generous grant of $1,500,000 to the Riverbrook Regional YMCA, to be disbursed over the next three years. This transformative donation will enhance participation in the Riverbrook Regional Y’s S.W.I.M. Initiative program (Swimming With Instruction Matters), improve Special Needs programs, upgrade the outdoor Splash Pad, and support event sponsorships.

The Y’s S.W.I.M. Initiative provides underserved youth with free swim safety instruction. ASML’s significant contribution will greatly enhance this program, over the next 3 years, by providing access to free swimming lessons for Norwalk first graders in need. The program aims to combat the cycle of accidental drowning among youth under the age of 6, particularly among families who often forgo swimming lessons due to financial constraints. It seeks to reduce youth drowning incidents in our area, teach essential swimming skills, and educate parents.

“Every child deserves the chance to learn how to swim and be safe around water,” said Samantha Lusher, COO of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA. “This initiative is about saving lives and ensuring that all families—regardless of background—have access to critical water safety education.”

A portion of this grant will be allocated to developing a more comprehensive, year-round Special Needs program that includes swimming as a primary activity, alongside other confidence-building, and social activities for this growing community, fostering independence in the lives of youth and adults with special needs.

“Our YMCA prides itself on being a place for all, and a center of the community. This generous grant will enable our special needs department to continue to grow and offer more programming as well as employment opportunities to our special needs community members. On behalf of all our participants, families, volunteers, and staff, a huge thank you to our friends and buddies at ASML!” said Eric Lindahl, Director of Sports and Special Needs of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA.

In addition to program enhancements, improvements to outdoor facilities will include upgrades to the splash pad, following the devastation caused by the August 2024 floods, creating a joyful and welcoming environment for campers, members, and the entire community.

“On behalf of the entire YMCA community, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to ASML for this charitable grant. Your support is a powerful investment in the youth and families we serve every day,” said Christene Freedman, CEO of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA. “With your partnership, we can expand access and create more opportunities for growth, learning, and equity for all in our community.”

ASML is recognized as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of chip-making equipment and stands as Wilton CT’s largest employer, with over 3,000 employees. ASML’s steadfast support has established them as the Y’s largest community partner, contributing to numerous events and volunteer initiatives. The Y looks forward to continuing its partnership with ASML, fostering larger and more impactful volunteer opportunities alongside exceptional community-focused events.

Brian Amero, Program Manager for Society and Community Engagement at ASML said, “Being part of a community means not only caring for our own employees but also looking out for those beyond our organization. Our partnership with the Riverbrook Regional YMCA will ensure that this great organization continues its legacy as a cornerstone of the Norwalk, Redding, and Wilton communities.”
