As part of the YMCA’s commitment to reduce drowning rates and keep kids safe in and around the water, the Riverbrook Regional YMCA provides scholarships for swim lessons to children from the Norwalk community. Over the past three years the YMCA has been working to provide over 1000 children from the Norwalk community with swim safety skills. The Safety Around Water program also includes water safety and drowning prevention education for parents.
The main goal for this program is to Reduce Youth Drowning. As a component of this program the YMCA will provide swim lessons to your child at no cost. The swim lessons are provided at the Wilton YMCA pool. These lessons will give your child the necessary skills to help them prevent drowning. Each lesson will be one half hour in length. Some of the skills we will be teaching your child will include: Breathing/Breath Control/Holding Breath, Mastery and control of buoyancy, and Opening eyes underwater. As part of this program the YMCA also offers Water Safety/ drowning prevention education for parents of participants.
