School Age Child Care Before and After School Care

YMCA of Norwalk School Age Child Care (SACC) programs are designed to meet the needs of school-age children and the needs of our parents. Parents can be assured that their children are being well cared for in an enriching environment where the top priorities are safety, supervision and fun! YMCA School Age Programs are structured to offer activities that benefit children’s social, physical and educational development. The YMCA of Norwalk operates 2 convenient elementary sites in the Norwalk Public School system providing Before and After school care to students who attend Columbus and Fox Run Elementary.

Elementary School Sites for 2017-2018 school year:
Before and After school Care
– Columbus Magnet Elementary School – 6th Graders are eligible for the program
– Fox Run Elementary School

Each day’s activities are planned and organized to provide just the right balance of education and fun so that our program is not an extension of the school day, but an enhancement to your child’s daily routine. Academic enrichment such as chemistry allows students to learn with hands on experiential education techniques. Sports, games and outdoor activities help children develop fine and gross motor skills, teamwork, and physical fitness. While arts and craft projects allow kids to express their creative ideas freely. YMCA School Age Program activities also include homework support,  arts & humanities, environmental education and community service projects. The YMCA of Norwalk SACC curriculum focuses on the the daily activities in all aspects of a program; and uses the overall quality of the program to reach the desired outcome of fostering the child’s overall development. We are also in partnership with the Norwalk Health department and provide the program Fit Kids, where students learn nutrition and physical activity , which also aligns with the YMCA following HEPA standards. With the HEPA standards we do provide a health snack during after school time.

The YMCA of Norwalk is part of the After School Achievement Program a collaborative effort with the Norwalk Public Schools and Norwalk Education Foundation to provide high quality before and  afterschool programs throughout the City of Norwalk. The YMCA of Norwalk understands that the programs quality depends on the staff working with your child on a daily basis. All YMCA SACC staff have gone through extensive state and federal background checks. In addition, the YMCA has increased our hiring state certified teachers and Norwalk Public Schools Teachers Aids to improve the academic link between the school day activities and the SACC program. Our quality instructors  academic enrichment, sport instruction and arts and humanities/fitness coordinator help balance our programs academic and enrichment components to fit with our mission of a child’s overall development.

School Age Childcare Hours / Tuition

Before School program starts at 7:15am until school begins

After-school programs run from school dismissal to 6:00 pm

If there is a scheduled early dismissal through Norwalk Public schools (i.e. Parent teacher conferences) We will begin programming a the time of that bell until 6pm

All participants are required to have a monthly draft for SACC payments. Any and all cancellations require a written 30 day notice.

Before and After school programs will follow Norwalk Public schools schedule for inclement weather. For example if there is a delay in the morning, i.e. 2 hour delay , we would open at 9:15am rather then 7:15am. And for afternoon care if the school closes early or cancels afternoon activities the after school program will also be canceled.

We will post these updates on our Facebook Page , NorwalkYMCASacc , as well as on the school closing and delays list on NEWS CHANNEL 12. We will also send out a mass email.

Please contact Desiree Edwards, After school and Day Camp Director at 203-762-8384 x213  or dedwards@riverbrookymca.org for more details. We also encourage those in need of financial assistance to contact Care 4 Kids at 1-888-214- KIDS before applying for YMCA fee assistance.
